Prepare meals and snacks that are appropriate for children with Type 1 diabetes especially children with Celiac Disease ( Gluten Free )
Accurately calculate carbohydrate counts for meals.
Work with the RN/CDCES to develop meal plans.
Maintain a clean,safe, gluten free food preparation area.

Staff-to-Child Ratio: Maintain a low staff-to-child ratio to ensure adequate supervision and individualized care.
Ongoing Training: Provide regular training and continuing education for all staff members on the latest diabetes management practices.
Emergency Preparedness: Develop and practice emergency protocols for hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

Role:
Prepare Specialized Meals and Snacks:
Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks that are specifically tailored to the dietary needs of children with Type 1 diabetes, with a critical focus on ensuring all meals are completely gluten-free to accommodate children with Celiac Disease.
Utilize safe food handling practices to prevent cross-contamination, ensuring all gluten-free items are prepared in a dedicated area with separate utensils and equipment.
Create a variety of appealing and child-friendly meals that meet both diabetic and Celiac dietary restrictions.
Accurate Carbohydrate Counting:
Precisely calculate the carbohydrate content of all meals and snacks, providing detailed nutritional information for the RN/CDCES and childcare staff.
Utilize accurate measuring tools and reliable nutritional databases to ensure accurate carbohydrate counts.
Collaborative Meal Planning:
Work closely with the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) to develop individualized meal plans that meet each child's specific dietary requirements and preferences.
Provide input on meal options and suggest modifications to ensure meals are both nutritious and enjoyable for the children.
Be able to read and understand food labels to verify gluten free status.
Maintain a Safe and Hygienic Kitchen Environment:
Adhere to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe food preparation area.
Ensure proper storage and handling of food items to prevent spoilage and cross-contamination.
Maintain accurate records of food inventory and meal preparation.
Qualifications:
Food Service Experience:
Proven experience in food service, preferably in a childcare, healthcare, or educational setting.
Experience with preparing meals for individuals with dietary restrictions, particularly gluten-free diets and diabetes.
Nutritional Knowledge:
Solid understanding of basic nutrition principles, including carbohydrate counting, portion control, and balanced meal planning.
Demonstrated knowledge of gluten-free cooking and baking techniques.
Ability to read and understand food labels.
Food Safety Certification:
Current food safety certification from a recognized organization.
Knowledge of safe food handling practices and sanitation procedures.
Attention to Detail:
Must be highly organized and pay close attention to detail, especially when calculating carbohydrate counts and preventing cross-contamination.
Communication and Collaboration:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to follow instructions 1 and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals dedicated staff
